The fine print, in plain English
Cancellation & weather.
Sailing depends on the lake. Here is exactly how rescheduling, weather cancellations, and credits work.
Last updated: 2026 season
Rescheduling & cancellations
These terms apply to lessons, club sails, bareboating, and private cruises.
- 48 hours or more: reschedule at no additional fee.
- Less than 48 hours or a no-show: lose the sail time or pay a $50 rescheduling fee. Private cruises forfeit the sail.
- Cancelled by 3rd Coast: no penalty, and we will reschedule at no additional cost.
- Low demand or cold: a sail may also be cancelled if fewer than three sailors are booked, or if the air temperature is below 45°F.
Weather cancellations
We sail in most weather, but the captain may cancel for lightning, sustained high wind, or unsafe harbor conditions. The captain's decision is final.
- If we cancel, we will call, text, or email you at least two hours before your scheduled sail.
- If you do not hear from us, the sail is on as scheduled.
- A captain's cancellation does not count against you. You can reschedule, and cruising credits are issued for special-event cruises.
- Club sails cancelled for weather may be rescheduled for that week only.
Club membership terms
- Permanent cancellation or downgrade of a pay-per-sail or club package incurs a $100 cancellation charge, plus $150 per sail already used.
- Club memberships cannot be cancelled or downgraded once the season starts.
- There are no rollovers or banking for Club Membership Plus packages — they are use-it-or-lose-it for the season purchased.
- Bareboating is subject to a 48-hour cancellation policy. A membership cancelled or downgraded after bareboat hours were used also incurs $100 per bareboat hour used.
- Scheduling is based on availability. We may add or subtract scheduled sails, but we will do our best to get you out on your chosen day.
Group, corporate & special events
- A 50% deposit holds the date and boat(s); the balance is due 45 days before the event.
- Reschedule with at least two weeks' notice for a $100 fee per boat.
- Cancel with at least two weeks' notice: 50% of the total is retained and 50% is refunded.
- Cancel with less than two weeks' notice: no refund.
- If 3rd Coast cancels, there is no penalty and we will reschedule at no additional cost.
- Cruising credits are issued for inclement weather.
Special-event cruises
For events such as America's Cup or the Air & Water Show, you paid for a cruise. We cannot control factors outside our operation. If the event is cancelled but we can still safely sail or motor-sail, credits and refunds are not issued.
Conduct aboard
Safety comes first. Behavior that is detrimental to the safety and well-being of the vessel, crew, or guests is not tolerated — including excessive alcohol consumption. You may be removed from the vessel at the nearest safe dock, with no refund or credit.
Liability waiver
Everyone must complete a liability waiver before sailing. Parents or guardians may sign for children. The waiver is provided at registration or by your crew before departure.
Tips
Captains and crew work hard to make your sail safe and fun. Gratuity is not included and is greatly appreciated.
