3rd Coast Cruising sailboats on Lake Michigan

Sail all season

More seatime. Better sailor.

Club membership is how you go from first lesson to confident skipper. Sail seven days a week, cross-train on different boats, and build the hours certification requires.

How it works

Try before you commit.

Every prospective member starts with the Trial Membership. Sail a few times, meet the captains and crew, and then choose a package that fits your schedule.

  • One trial, then customize

The Trial Membership is required before a full season package so we can match you to the right program.

  • Priority scheduling

Members schedule months ahead for club sails and bareboating, with access to more sail times.

  • Seatime that counts

Every club sail builds toward NauticEd, SLC, and USCG captain requirements.

Membership questions.

Can I share a membership?

Several tiers are shareable: Commander's, Captain's, and Admiral's Club memberships, the 5- and 10-week family memberships, and Mate memberships. Each sailor still needs a unique account and email.

Does a membership include bareboating?

Club Membership Plus packages include monohull rental hours, and some include catamaran hours. The Admiral's Club includes unlimited monohull bareboating. See the package table above and read the bareboat agreement before booking.

Can I cancel or downgrade?

Club memberships cannot be canceled or downgraded once the season starts. Permanent cancellation is subject to a $100 charge plus $150 per sail used. There are no rollovers; memberships are use-it-or-lose-it for the season. Full terms are in the cancellation policy.

Do I have to start with the Trial Membership?

Yes. Because there are many membership options and most members stay for years, 3rd Coast asks every prospective member to start with the trial so both sides can make sure it is a good fit.

How do I schedule?

After purchase, register every sailor, then use Request to Sail (RTS) or book an open sail. RTS is a waitlist, not a guaranteed spot. Full steps are on Plan Your Visit.
